Maybank starts releasing premier debit card

Addition of Maybankard MasterCard Platinum Debit increases chances of hitting 500,000 new cardholders target.

Maybank president & CEO Datuk Seri Abdul Wahid Omar said the new card "is especially attractive to card holders as the card is accepted at over 29 million Master Card merchants worldwide as well as Automated Teller Machines (ATM) that display the Cirrus logo."

"It also doubles as an ATM card to access over 4,500 Maybank self-service terminals for cash withdrawal, banking and payment convenience," said Abdul Wahid adding that cardholders will receive one Maybank TreatsPoints for every RM3 spent using their debit card.

Abdul Wahid said Maybank is currently the market leader in debit card issuance, merchant outlets and billings, commanding over 26 percent of the industry total of 24.4 million debit cardholders.

The bank is targeting to recruit half a million new card members by December 2010 and boost its debit transaction growth by 80 percent with this latest addition to the Maybank debit cards, Abdul Wahid said.
